PGIMER Introduces Online Pre-registration for Patients

by Julia Samuel on March 16, 2015 at 11:25 AM

Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh has launched online pre-registration to relieve patients from standing in long queues. To kick off, the facility will be limited to 40 patients per day and will be available at the Advanced Eye Centre on a pilot basis. The same will be applied to the entire hospital if it remains successful.

"Within the next few weeks, this limit will be increased and the facility extended to other out patient department (OPD) at PGIMER," said PGIMER spokesperson Manju Wadwalkar.

The PGIMER examined around 20-lakh patients in its different OPDs last year. Out of the 20-lakh patients examined in various OPDs and special clinics at the PGIMER, around eight lakh were new patients who got registered at the institute for the first time.

On a chosen date in the next one week patients can register themselves on the institute website for a visit to the Advanced Eye Centre (AEC). A pre-registration number will be sent to their registered mobile number and e-mail ID.

An OPD card with a unique and permanent patient CR number will be generated within a minute by presenting this number at the special pre-registration counter in the AEC on the chosen day. The patient will use this permanent CR number for all subsequent visits to the hospital to the AEC and all other departments. If the patient does not come to the OPD on the chosen day, they will have to re-register on the web.
