Pinkeye Outbreak Reported from Egypt

The official MENA news agency reported over the weekend that an outbreak of pinkeye has been detected in northern Egypt.

The official MENA news agency reported over the weekend that an outbreak of pinkeye has been detected in northern Egypt.

Egyptian Health Ministry spokesman Abdel-Rahman Shahin said that the condition has now affected 1,831 people, Xinhua reported today.


The report also said that most cases were of students. Among them, 1,042 in Daqahliya, 40 in Port Said and 12 in Damietta have been reported.

Pinkeye is an inflammation of the conjunctiva usually caused by viral infection. It can spread very quickly and in extreme cases can damage vision.
