By regular exercises and sufficient sleep happier people might take a proactive approach to ageing. Such people may refrain from unhealthy behavior like smoking, risky sex. An optimistic outlook helps to combat stress. Stress is a risk factor for many diseases.

During the study that was conducted by Cornell University it was observed that subjects with stronger positive attitude have lower levels of chemicals related to inflammation. Being positive helps people resolve some of the physical damage triggered by stress thereby improving the quality of life. This study has been published in Current Directions in Psychological Science.
