A new study conducted by a group of German scientists suggest that focusing on positive thought rather than worrying about the distant future could be the best way to age gracefully.

The researchers were looking into why some people managed to remain mentally sharp in their old age and found that rather than solving crossword puzzles, a positive outlook towards life can help people maintain their mental balance in old age.

The study has been published in the journal Biological Psychiatry.

The researchers conducted the study on group of young and old adults, asking them to perform some specialized task involving images that displayed happy, sad, fearful and neutral faces and found that the elderly were distracted the most by happy faces which triggered the part of the brain that helps control emotions.
