In the run up to the smoking ban in New Zealand, prisoners are being given carrot sticks to inspire them to quit the habit altogether. Further, no tobacco will be permitted in prisons from June 1st 2011.
Two carrot sticks are to be provided to prisoners as per the national directive
The idea of carrot sticks is because it is healthier to consume carrots rather than chocolates and when smokers have something in their mouths, it helps keep their minds from being drawn to smoking.
