As per new plans underway, members of the public will now be able to rate care homes for the elderly on a new website.

This will work in much the same way as providing reviews of a hotel on TripAdvisor site.

Updated information from inspections as well as records of mistreatment or abuse by staff will be furnished on the website. Feedback of residents and their relatives will also be provided for public view.

The system has been put in place to reveal the problems faced by inmates of care homes, more so to highlight the failure to treat people with dignity and respect.

Care Services Minister Paul Burstow said , "I hope providers of good quality care will welcome that we're looking for new ways to highlight the good work they do to care for people. And for those areas where standards aren't so good, I want people to get the message loud and clear that we're intent on doing absolutely all we can to shine a light on bad treatment and raise quality for everyone."
