Rally in Chennai to Fight Drug Abuse and Illegal Drug Trafficking

A rally to promote awareness on the dangerous effects of drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking was organized today at the Sri Ramachandra University, Chennai, South India to mark the international day against drug abuse and drug trafficking.


The Department of Psychiatry conducted the rally and also a CME program on Neurobiology of Craving followed by an interactive program led by eminent psychiatrist Dr. Rudran, with persons undergoing de-addiction program .

Speaking on the occasion Dr. Rudran said people normally get addicted to drugs in traditional societies due to lack of self control and excessive social control. To find an illusory freedom they try to break out of societal control and fall prey to drug addiction. Intermittently they try to come out of it, which is when as responsible members of the society we should extend supportive help to them and get them back on track.

Many eminent scholars spoke on the harmful practice of drug abuse and the need for timely rehabilitation. Staff and students pledged their solidarity in the fight against drug abuse on the occasion.
