It may be surprising to know that when parents talk premature babies respond with more vocal sounds.

Premature babies are a bit deficient in language skills due to the many health problems that may be troubling them.

It is still unclear whether the sounds preemies hear as soon as they are born combined with their own ability to vocalize is in anyway connected to their language development in the later years.

The study found that when preemies heard adults talk, especially their parents, they responded with more vocal sounds.

Researchers still do not fully comprehend the importance of these vocalizations. They are trying to find out if the exposure to language and vocalizations received by preemies at the Neonatal ICU has any bearing on their language development in the later years.
