Implants have become a boon for many as it replaces the actual organs in the body. Many implants have been developed to offer artificial vision.

‘Retinal Implant AG, a German firm, has obtained European regulatory approval for its Alpha AMS subretinal implant for people who have become blind due to retinitis pigmentosa.’

Retinitis pigmentosa is one of the most common inherited diseases of the retina. It causes night blindness in the early stages, along with atrophy and pigment changes in the retina, constriction of the visual field and eventual blindness.

This new device offers an improved vision clarity featuring 1600 pixels, which is 100 more than the earlier one. The implanted chip acts as a retina and captures images multiple times a second. It also stimulates the optic fiber based on what is caught.
There are no external cameras in this device, which enables it to give a natural vision. It also helps the patient to see clearly around the eyes without even having to turn the entire head to change the point of view.
The German Firm has now obtained European regulatory approval for this improved device, Alpha AMS subretinal implant.
