Risk of Mortality for Nondrinkers
Research from The University of Colorado seems to say that those who do not drink at all carry a higher mortality risk as compared to light drinkers.
This contradicts multiple studies that have pointed to a connection between risks of death among those who consume alcohol, especially in excess.
Similar research has also pointed out that mortality risk increases among non-drinkers, though the risk is less compared to the health risks for heavy drinkers.
Researchers are of the belief that this mortality risk among non-drinkers could be due to the fact that light alcohol consumption, which could be less than one drink a day, may actually help in lowering stress levels and protect people from disease.
The secret lies in moderation and excessive alcohol consumption is highly injurious to health.
