Relatives of a 70-year old comatose patient, Muhammad Iqbal, have alleged that he was bitten by rats at the intensive care unit (ICU) of Mathura Das Mathur Hospital in Jodhpur on Tuesday night.

Muhammad Iqbal is a paralytic stroke patient and has been in coma for 60 days now and is on ventilator. His relatives alleged that rodents nibbled on his ears, nose, lips and cheeks while the hospital staff slept. A three-member committee has been set up to investigate the matter. Meanwhile, a nurse and the care taker of the hospital have been suspended.

Rajasthan Health Minister Aimuddin Ahmed Khan said, "It's shocking and unfortunate. We will certainly fix responsibility in this case. We have set up a three member committee to look into the matter. They should submit their report soon. Also we have served notices to the contractor for maintenance and nursing superintendent."
