Rudimentary Teeth Grown from Urine
Scientists from China have grown teeth out of human urine.
The team at the Guangzhou Institutes of Biomedicine and Health used urine as the starting point.
Cells normally passed from the body, like those from the lining of the body's waterworks, are harvested in the lab, they are then coaxed into becoming stem cells.
A mixture of these collected cells and other materials from a mouse were then implanted into the animals.
The researchers said that after 3 weeks the cells bundle started to look like a tooth, containing dental pulp, dentin, enamel space and enamel organ, the BBC reported.
However, they said that these 'teeth' were not as hard as natural teeth.
The results have been published in Cell Regeneration Journal.
