SAMi Device Monitors Night Time Seizures in Epilepsy Patients

by Kathy Jones on May 27, 2014 at 6:24 PM

The Epilepsy Foundation has come out with a special night time camera that can help caregivers better monitor epilepsy patients when they are sleeping.

Called SAMi, the device is linked with a smartphone and monitors the patient by illuminating the bed through infrared and nearly invisible LED lights. The camera continues to record the video of the patient and when it detects sufficient sustained motion, it sends an alert to the caregiver's smartphone.

The caregiver can also see and hear what is going on by switching to a video and audio mode while the video is recorded so that the caregivers can share it with a doctor.
