Seven Test Tube Twins Were Born Using IVF

Using the in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) procedure, fourteen test tube babies were born to seven childless mothers.

Using the in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) procedure, fourteen test tube babies were born to seven childless mothers.

The doctors carried out caesarean operations,creating a world record of the healthiest twins born within 12 hours.


The operation was performed at the Tevatia Hospital and Fertility Centre on Thursday. Doctors commenced the surgeries at 6 a.m. and continued till 6.30 p.m. in the evening.

Speaking about the incredible feat, embryologist Dr.Aakash Sharma, said on Friday that he was pleased to bring happiness to so many childless mothers and described all the babies born as being absolutely healthy and stable.

"This is a world record which we have achieved. Also, all the 14 babies born are totally healthy and fine," said Dr.Sharma.

Sharma also added that it was an achievement that such a landmark operation was carried out in a small city like Bulandshahr.

Meanwhile, an elated Rajkumari, a woman who was not able to conceive for the past eight years, that she could not belief she was now a mother of two children.

"I have been married for eight years; I consulted a lot of doctors, but to no avail. Now, I am very pleased with the Tevatia Hospital and its doctors. I have now two babies, one girl and one boy. I had never imagined that I would one day be the mother of two children," said Rajkumari.

IVF is a fertilisation process that manually combines an egg and a sperm outside the body. It is a significant operation in infertility when other ways of assisted reproductive technology do not succeed.

The first successful birth of a "test tube baby", Louise Brown, occurred in 1978. Robert G. Edwards, the physiologist who developed the treatment, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2010.
