Sick British Ebola Nurse is 'Much Better' Now: Royal Free Hospital

Despite recovering from the Ebola virus in December 2014 after returning to the Scottish city of Glasgow from Sierra Leone, Pauline Cafferkey, 39, was readmitted to hospital on October 6, 2015, due to the virus relapse. She was declared to be 'critically ill' on last Wednesday, October 14, 2015.

Doctors at London's Royal Free Hospital said that the virus caused Cafferkey to contract meningitis. Medics treating her in London said, "There has been a significant improvement in the health of the British nurse who suffered a relapse after contracting Ebola in Sierra Leone."

Infectious disease consultant Dr. Michael Jacobs of the Royal Free Hospital said, "In the last few days she's made a significant improvement. She's much better now. We have no doubt that the virus re-emerged around the brain and around the spinal column to cause this meningitis. Cafferkey's condition is serious but stable. I think she has a long recovery ahead of her and will be with us for quite a while still."
