Simple Reason Why Some Women Appear Grumpy in the Morning
A research into the sleeping habits of 210 people, found that women who slept less at night woke up grumpy and angry as compared to men who slept just as much.
It appears that women suffer much more than men both physically and mentally if they did not get enough sleep. This is due to the differences in hormones between the male and the female sex. Women need more sleep to keep their hormones in balance.
Quoting author Edward Suarez, an associate professor in the department of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Duke University , "The study suggests that poor sleep - measured by the total amount of sleep, the degree of awakening during the night, and most importantly, how long it takes to get to sleep - may have more serious health consequences for women than for men."
The study showed that women who sleep less portray elevated feelings of depression and anger and also show signs of psychological distress. The risk of heart disease and depression was also that much higher among women who slept less habitually, as compared to their male counterparts.
"Good sleep is related to good health. More research needs to be done to define gender-linked responses to poor sleep, including the role that sex hormones play over a lifetime and how sleep needs and responses change from childhood to maturity," Suarez concluded.
