Sleep apnea testing is now possible at home. The device called as ARES Unicoder, has been developed by Watermark Medical, Florida and has been ranked as the top 10 medical innovation of 2010.

This home diagnostic kit for people with sleep disorders such as apnea comes with a headset that patients can wear at home during sleep. The device records nasal airflow, snoring, O2 saturation, pulse rate and REM/NREM using an EEG.

Physicians can use this data along with clinical indicators to prepare an apnea index and respiratory disturbance index which helps in the diagnosis.
