Sleeping Just Two Hours More at Night can Reduce Sensitivity to Pain
A new study has revealed that sleeping for two hours extra a night can help reduce our sensitivity to pain and bring more relief than strong painkillers. Volunteers who slept for more than 10 hours were in a better position to resist pain than those who slept for eight hours or less. Scientists also found that ten hours of sleep at night was more effective in reducing pain than codeine. Dr Timothy Roehrs, of Henry Ford Hospital in the United States, said: "Our results suggest the importance of adequate sleep in various chronic pain conditions or in preparation for elective surgical procedures. We were surprised by the magnitude of the reduction in pain sensitivity, when compared to the reduction produced by taking codeine."
