The Victoria Hospital mortuary in Bangalore is battling with an acute lack of space, which has placed it at war with the Bangalore City Railway police.
The administration feels that the police are not doing enough to identify relatives of the unidentified bodies, due to which space is being occupied by these bodies. Last year 216 bodies were sent by the Railway police to the mortuary of which 18 are still to be claimed.
"These days the number of arrivals is decreasing because Bowring and Ramaiah hospitals are getting more bodies. But the number of unidentified bodies is more here," Abdul, an autopsy staff told NDTV.
Of the 48 cabinets in the Hospital mortuary 23 contain unidentified bodies, which is making the task tough for staff at the Hospital.
Railway PSI Nagaraju said they were doing their best to clear the backlog, "We are doing our best but it is difficult to identify most of the bodies. Even if we get minimum information, we can move faster on the cases," he stressed.
