A new study has shown that body postures make a lot of difference when it comes to promotion or salary increment and carries a huge impact in influencing the decision of your boss.

So be careful to stand upright next time your boss asks you how much you should be paid as tilting towards the left, you will be putting a lower value on your worth.

Researchers found that stealthily manipulating the tilt of the body affects people's estimates of sizes, numbers and percentages and people who physically lean to the left are more likely to underestimate figures, the Daily Express reported.

The study took into consideration 33 students, who mere made to stand on Wii balance boards that unnoticeably manipulated their posture to tilt left or right or stay upright while questions appeared on a screen.

They were asked to guess figures like the height of the Eiffel Tower, the percentage of alcohol in whisky, how many grandchildren Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands has and how many Michael Jackson records topped the charts.

The students gave smaller numbers when the board was tilted, i.e they were leaning towards the left.

However body posture did not have any role to play if someone actually knew the answer and the students replied correctly irrespective of the direction they leaned.

The research also found that inclining towards right made no difference to answers the students gave.

The study will be published in the journal Psychological Science.
