A new study has revealed the long term benefits of having supportive colleagues, which creates a positive environment at the workplace and boosts longevity.

"Peer social support, which could represent how well a participant is socially integrated in his or her employment context, is a potent predictor of the risk of all causes of mortality," the researchers said.

Researchers also spotted a marked difference in the way men and women reacted to control and decision-making powers at the workplace. While it elevated the risk of mortality for women, control and authority had a protective effect for men.
