A recent investigation in the area of manufacture of surgical instruments has revealed that only one NHS Trust gets their equipment certified for quality by a technologist.

Out of 19 sample instruments sent from Sialkot in Pakistan, 12 did not make it in the quality tests at Barts and London NHS Trust.

According to Lead technologist Tom Brophy, 20% of instruments from suppliers worldwide are not suitable . And alarmingly, the same suppliers provide items to more than 180 health trusts in UK, which is used unchecked.
