Teen Pregnancy Rate Declines in the US

The number of teenage girls giving birth in the United States has fallen over the last two years the rate continues to remain high in the south.

According to the latest figures released by the CDC, the number of teenage mothers fell by more than 8 percent from 2007 to 2009 with New Hampshire recording the lowest rate at 16.4 per 1000 teens.

Overall 45 states in the country showed significant decline in teenage mothers with the rate being lowest in the North East region of the country.

However southern and western states continued to struggle with high rate of teenage pregnancy with states such as Texas, Mississippi and Oklahoma showing birth rates of 60 per 1000 teens compared to the national average of 39 per 1000.
