Teen Suffers Three Heart Attacks After Jagerbomb Caffeine Overdose

by Kathy Jones on March 7, 2014 at 8:34 PM

An 18-year old student suffered three heart attacks after drinking 10 caffeine-laden Jagerbombs and had to spend three weeks in hospital before being fitted with a device to restart her heart.

After a late night party at Club Neo in Yeovil, Jayde Dinsdale returned home and was washing her face the next morning, talking with her mother, when she collapsed. Her father Darryl performed CPR before calling up an ambulance and was taken to the intensive care unit at Yeovil District Hospital where she was put into an induced coma for 52 hours after suffering a third heart attack.

Jayde revealed that she had consumed 10 Jagerbombs, which is a mixture of Jagermeister spirit and an energy drink such as Red Bull or Monster. After the effects of alcohol wore off, the caffeine took control of the system, increasing her heart rate dangerously out of control, triggering the heart attacks.

Stating that such drinks should not be sold, Jayde said, "Alcohol slows your heart rate but energy drinks speed it up. That's why I was able to come home and sleep OK but when the alcohol left my system my heart rate accelerated out of control. I think it is pretty bad that people sell these drinks. You've no idea how dangerous they can be."
