Drinking alcohol is more common among teens from wealthier families, a recent UK study revealed.

The reason could possibly be that, the ones from affluent families have access to alcohol much more than their not-so-affluent peers. They may also consume alcohol without their parents' knowledge.

The level of mothers' education seemed to have a positive influence on alcohol use among teenagers, the study found. Teens whose mothers are well educated, refrained from taking to alcohol at an early age, as well-informed mothers will keep their children informed about the health risks of alcohol.

It is good if parents keep a watch over their children's habits and even better if they keep the access points to alcohol out of reach.
