A new study has pointed out that 10 year old children are trying to lose weight the wrong way by vomiting out food, with boys doing this more than girls.

A study that surveyed about 9,000 girls and 7,000 boys at 120 schools in Taiwan found that self-induced vomiting was being practiced by 16 percent of children between the ages of 10 and 12.

Kids who are overweight tended to adopt such practices. Further, kids who are habituated to spending time on the computer for more than two hours a day carried a 55 percent risk of adopting such unhealthy means to lose weight.

Skipping breakfast, sleeping less than eight hours a day, sedentary lifestyle and eating junk food exacerbated this risk, researchers said.

"Self-induced vomiting was most prevalent in adolescents who had a sedentary lifestyle, slept less and ate unhealthily," researchers said.
