The recent U.S. Department of Agriculture report has revealed that a middle-income family in the U.S. with a baby born in 2010 will spend close to US$226,920

The recent U.S. Department of Agriculture report has revealed that a middle-income family in the U.S. with a baby born in 2010 will spend close to US$226,920 to bring him up till the age of 18.

If inflationary costs are added, the expenditure may touch $286,860.


According to the USDA, "middle-income" families are those that have an annual income between US$57,600 and $99,730.

The study also pointed out that a family with an annual income of more than $99,730 might spend $377,040 in 2010 to rear a child till 18, while those with an income less than $57,600 a year will spend about $163,440.
