Touch Surgery App Allows Surgeons to Rehearse Operations Virtually

by Reshma Anand on February 15, 2016 at 4:28 PM

A new mobile application acts as a platform for surgeons to practice operations virtually before reality.

The app has been developed by the London-based company "Touch Surgery" which has interfaced the app with Oculus Rift and zSpace 3D tablet.

Andre Chow, co-founder of Touch Surgery, said, "Over the last year Touch Surgery engineers have been developing Touch Surgery 3D, a real-time engine that will power virtual surgery on platforms such as the Oculus and zSpace as virtual reality platforms develop interactivity, we are excited to be leading this space."

‘Touch Surgery app allows surgeons to practice procedures ranging from heart surgery to carpal tunnel operations virtually and scores are awarded for accuracy and knowledge.’

The app seems to be a more convenient and cheaper way of practicing surgery before entering an operating room. This helps doctors to make correct decisions and also favors working out other possibilities for the same condition or illness.

Touch Surgery collaborates with leading surgeons at global academic institutions to cognitively map surgical procedures and combines this with a 3D virtual reality anatomical patient.

The app can also help in safer surgery by reducing risks taken during operations. It improves knowledge of the technique for trainee medical staffs.
