2 Pregnant Women & a Baby Die Due to Medical Negligence

by Julia Samuel on March 12, 2015 at 6:57 PM

The District Hospital in Pulwama, Kashmir, has witnessed the death of two women and a baby in three days. Local sources said that Khurshida died two hours after she delivered a baby via C-section.

In the post-operative ward, she developed massive pain and a few hours later, began bleeding profusely. Ghulam Rasool, her husband, was asked to fetch blood but he claims that she was taken back to surgery without his consent.

Rasool alleged that his wife had died due to negligence of the doctors. "A paramedico later told me that the doctors had forgotten a blade in my wife's womb during the caesarian. If they had not been the case, they would not have taken my wife to operation theatre again without my consent," he said.

Apparently, another similar case of negligence led to the death of a mother and her child at the hospital a few days ago. After the death of the second woman, protests broke out.

"Doctors who are posted here for last ten years only bother about their practice at private clinics," said a protester, Nisar Ahmad. "We demand that all the doctors and other medical staff should be transferred."

Following the incident, Niraj Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, Pulwama removed the medical superintendent of the hospital. "I have placed two doctors - Dr.Tasleema and Dr.Tahira, and a staff nurse under suspension for their alleged negligence. We're reshuffling the entire paramedical staff in the hospital. I have also recommended transfer of the doctors posted in the hospital for a long time. After post mortem, stern action will be taken against the guilty," Kumar said.
