It may not be a good idea for Indians to relocate from the countryside to the city as this can increase the risk of many lifestyle diseases.

A recent research found that when Indians relocate from countryside to city, their risk of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases go up.

The study found that such a movement caused a surge in blood pressure and fasting insulin levels within a decade of moving to the city.

"The findings suggest that body fat increases rapidly when one first moves to an urban environment, whereas other cardiometabolic risk factors evolve gradually," wrote the study leader Sanjay Kinra, of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
