Two Expats in the United Arab Emirates Infected With MERS Virus; Kept in Isolation
The two United Arab Emirates (UAE) expatriates - a woman and an 11-year-old child - were found infected with the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) virus, a media report revealed.
The victims, who live in the eastern region of Abu Dhabi, contracted the virus from a relative, who had the virus diagnosed last month, The National quoted the World Health Organization (WHO) as saying.
Neither of them had been exposed to other risk factors in the 14 days before detection, the WHO said. They are being kept in isolation, where they have not shown any symptoms.
Across the world, the WHO has been notified of 1,350 laboratory-confirmed cases of MERS, resulting in at least 480 deaths.
