A new study has revealed that children in the United States were consuming more than double the recommended limit of salt intake in their diet.

AHA chief executive officer Nancy Brown said that the high salt intake among the children has seen the rise of illnesses, such as high blood pressure, that were once viewed as limited to adults. “It's very disturbing that this nation's children and teens consume too much salt in their diets at school and home. High blood pressure, once viewed as an adult illness is now affecting more young people because of high sodium diets and increasing obesity. While new nutrition standards for school meals are helping, progress is slow”, she said.
