A recent survey conducted by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) on illegal drugs has found an increase in the use of marijuana amongst Americans.

The good news is that use of methamphetamine and cocaine has dropped.

Pot use among Americans went up to 6.9 percent in 2010. Methamphetamine and cocaine user rates have fallen by 50% in 2010, but the use of illicit drugs has gone up from 8.7 percent of the population in 2009 to 8.9 percent in 2010.

Experts have underlined the role of families in advising youngsters about the deleterious effects of drug use and protect them from taking to this harmful habit.
