More than 50 trainee sub inspectors with the excise department were rushed to hospital in Hyderabad following a suspected outbreak of diphtheria.

They were initially taken to the Fever Hospital but were later sent to government hospital for treatment. Fever Hospital officials said that they are currently awaiting the results of the throat swabs taken from the patients.
“Clinical investigations suggest viral or bacterial infection. Yet, we are waiting for the results of the throat swabs which will be available tomorrow. The condition of the patients is stable but they require rest”, Fever Hospital superintendent Dr K Shankar said.
