Ban Smoking in Public Parks? Walla Walla County In Washington Will Decide on April 21
Walla Walla may join the list of cities that have banned smoking in public parks. City leaders have been talking about the possible ban earlier this month and the meeting on April 21 could bring them one step closer to a decision.
City officials will talk about three possible options: a complete ban, a partial ban in public parks, meaning no smoking near playgrounds, or just sticking with what is in place now, no ban at all.
Jacob Otten is a smoker, but he said there should be some type of ban in place when it comes to children.
"People should respect other people's personal space. If you're a smoker, I don't think a park or a playground setting where kids are. I don't think you should be smoking there anyway," said Otten. Not everyone agrees, but other parents at the park said they do not want smoke around their children either.
Other cities like Seattle and Portland recently completely banned smoking in their public parks.
