Professor Stephen Hawking is searching for an assistant who will be able to help him in "areas which he has difficulty due to his disability."


According to the job specification posted on his website, Professor Hawking is looking for a candidate who is a computer literate and has knowledge of electronics. The 69-year old physicist wrote that it was a purely technical post and asked academics not to apply if they only want to study physics.

The ideal candidate would be the one who can develop and maintain Professor Hawking's communications and speech systems, will be able to travel abroad for at least three months, will be able to maintain his wheelchair and accessible van, deal with the media and press, prepare lecture graphics and will be able to communicate with the public and maintain his website.

The selected candidate will be paid an annual salary of �25,000, funded by the Cambridge University, and the initial job period will be for 12 months though the website revealed that recent assistants have stayed on for several years.
