Watch What You Eat This Christmas
Health experts are warning people to keep track of what they eat this Christmas with the British Heart Foundation stating that people often eat the equivalent of half a pack of lard in saturated fats and over 50 packets of crisps worth of salt during the festive period.
The researchers conducted a survey involving over 2,100 people and found that a typical breakfast during Christmas includes more than 1,200 calories while a bacon sandwich with brown sauce may equal over half of an adult's daily recommended limit of salt.
Over 75 percent of the participants also admitted that they eat a full Christmas turkey during dinner, which may amount to an additional 660 calories, including all the trimmings, while more than half will be following it up with Christmas pudding, 23 percent of whom will be taking it with cream.
"Once you've added together the Christmas parties, family gatherings and New Year festivities it's likely that you're eating and drinking much more than recommended. We're not saying you shouldn't have any fun during the Christmas season, but neither your heart nor your waistline will thank you for eating and drinking to excess by the time January arrives", British Heart Foundation's Victoria Taylor said.
