WHO Says Ebola Outbreak Death Toll More Than 2,000

by Kathy Jones on September 6, 2014 at 8:53 PM

The death toll caused by the Ebola outbreak in West Africa continues to rise after the World Health Organization confirmed that the number of lives claimed by the outbreak has breached the 2,000 mark.

Results from safety trials for two prototype vaccines will be known in November, the WHO added.

Earlier Friday, UN chief Ban Ki-moon Moon set the goal of stopping the worst-ever outbreak of the disease within six to nine months.

The "next few weeks will be crucial," Ban said in New York, adding that this was an "international rescue call."
