Woman Bids to Extend Preservation of Her Late Husband's Frozen Sperm Sample
A 28-year old widow is fighting to ensure that her late husband's frozen sperm is preserved for a longer time as she gets herself mentally prepared to conceive a baby.
Mrs Beth Warren is currently in the court challenging the time limit imposed by UK's fertility regulator, the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA), to preserve her husband, Warren Brewer's sperm. Warren died two years ago after developing a brain tumor but signed all the forms authorizing the storing of his sperm sample. Warren and Beth, who has taken her husband's first name as her surname, were married six weeks before his death.
Mrs Warren revealed that she is yet to recover from the trauma of losing her husband and her brother, who died in a car crash weeks later, and said that she was "emotionally, physically or practically" unprepared to conceive any time soon. With the HFEA stating that it will be destroying the sample in 14 months time, Mrs Warren is hopes to get the high court pass an order asking HEFA to preserve the sample beyond 14 months time.
"We just fell head over heels in love. It was a long time ago that we made plans that when we are engaged and married we would have children. Ideally we'd have a boy and a girl and we talked about names. I am just trying to do the right thing. I have the full support of Warren's family in my legal battle and in whatever decision I make, and they have told me how proud they are of how I am dealing with the situation", Mrs Warren said.
