Woman Dies of H1N1 Virus in Delhi, Toll Reaches 12

Swine flu claims life of a 24-year-old woman in the Capital after she delivered a baby, taking the death toll due to swine flu in Delhi to 12.


According to health department officials, the woman was admitted at a private hospital in Shalimar Bagh in the first week of March for a caesarian, when she went into fetal distress.

A Health department official said, "The baby was saved but the mother was diagnosed with H1N1. Treatment was started but since it was a complicated case due to the pregnancy and she also had diabetes, she was shifted to the nearby BSA hospital, which is the largest government hospital in the area and one of the designated 22 hospitals for H1N1 treatment," She succumbed to the disease on March 9.

A total of 15 people have tested positive for swine flu on March 18. Over 4,000 people have tested positive for H1N1 virus in Delhi since January.
