Youth Need to be Educated About Protecting Themselves Online Against Cyber Bullying
A global survey has found that nearly half of youths in the age group of 8 to 17 are worried about online bullying, and there is a need for more contribution from parents and schools to help youth protect themselves online.
The survey conducted online from Jan. 11 to Feb. 19 this year in 25 countries including China, India, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore, that solicited the response from more than 7,600 children aged 8 to 17, showed that nearly 86% of the youths were victims of bullying both online and offline .
The survey also found that girls were more likely to be bullied online. "Kids need to know that they can turn to a trusted adult, such as a parent, caregiver or teacher, who will talk to them about all kinds of online safety concerns," Jacqueline Beauchere, Director of Trustworthy Computing for Microsoft, said.
