1. Which doctor treats bladder stones?

Bladder stones are treated by a urologist.

2. Do people with bladder stones also have kidney stones?

Not necessarily. Some people with bladder stones may also have kidney stones while others do not.


3. Can children get bladder stones?

Yes. Some children may be at an increased risk for bladder stones. These include those who have undergone bladder augmentation surgeries for congenital abnormalities.

Children with malnutrition with deficiency of protein, carbohydrate, vitamin A, magnesium, phosphate and vitamin B6, and dehydration are also prone to suffering from bladder stones.

4. Can bladder stones cause cancer?

If a stone is present in the bladder for a long time, it can cause chronic irritation of the inner lining of the bladder which can lead to cancer.

5. Can medications be used to treat bladder stones?

Bladder stones are usually treated with surgery. Alkalization of the urine with potassium citrate can be used to dissolve uric acid stones. Antibiotics are necessary to treat infections.
