Down Syndrome: A disorder caused by the presence of an extra chromosome 21 and characterized by mental retardation and distinguishing physical features.Cerebral palsy: Defect of motor power and co-ordination caused by damage to the developing brain.
Optometrist: A professional trained to test, detect, and treat eye problems by prescribing and adapting corrective lenses and other optical aids.
Refractive error: A defect in the eye that prevents light from being brought to a single focus exact on the retina when the accommodation is at rest.
Duane's syndrome: a disorder present at birth consisting of horizontal movement restriction due to fibrosis of one or more muscles that are responsible for moving the eyes.
Fibrosis: the presence of fibrous (scar like) tissue, that prevents normal functioning of a particular organ.
Myopia: Refractive error in which parallel rays of light from infinity are focused in front of the retina when the accommodation is at rest.
Hypermetropia: Refractive error in which parallel rays of light from infinity are focused behind the retina when the accommodation is at rest.
Accommodation: Increase in the converging power of the lens for seeing clearly at near distances.
Astigmatism: Different degrees of refraction in different meridians.
