Glossary

Thrombosis: The formation or presence of a blood clot inside a blood vessel.

Paracentesis: Insertion of a thin needle or tube into the abdomen to remove fluid from the peritoneal cavity.

Creatinine: A waste product produced by the body during muscle metabolism. If the creatinine level increases in the blood, this may indicate decreased kidney function.


Ascites: Abnormal buildup of fluid in the abdomen.

Pleural Effusion: An abnormal collection of fluid between the thin layers of tissue (pleura) lining the lung and the wall of the chest cavity.
