Glossary
Autoimmune disease: A disease in which the immune system mistakenly attacks the body's own cells and tissues.Endoscope: A fiber-optic tube, fitted with a light and camera at its tip, which is used for visualization of internal hollow structures of the body.
Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD): A group of disorders characterized by chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract. Examples include Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.
Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA): This is a disease of the connective tissues that usually appears in the form of painful swelling in the joints of the hands and feet. RA often worsens over time, causing joint deformities and disability.
Scleroderma: A disease of the skin and connective tissue that can cause hair loss over the affected areas.
Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE): An autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks the body's own cells and tissues. It affects the skin, kidneys, brain, joints and other organs.
Trigeminal nerve: It is also known as the fifth cranial nerve, which delivers sensory stimuli to the brain from the face, teeth and tongue.
Trigeminal neuralgia: A chronic painful condition affecting the trigeminal nerve.
