1. Which doctor should I consult for pterygium?

You should consult an ophthalmologist in case of pterygium.

2. Why do people need pterygium surgery?

If a pterygium causes excessive irritation due to dryness / inflammation or a patient feels it to be cosmetically unappealing then people go may opt for surgery.

3. Are there any visible scars left after pterygium surgery?

Some amount of corneal scarring will be visible. The amount depends on the extent of infiltration of the cornea prior to the surgery. At any rate, it will definitely be less than the appearance before surgery. If it is extensive, then a partial thickness corneal graft can help deal with the problem.


4. Can pterygium make anyone blind?

Pterygium does not cause blindness. However, if it grows large due to neglect, it can seriously interfere with vision.

5. What is the duration of pterygium surgery?

Pterygium surgery takes about 40-45 minutes.
