Glossary

Acupuncture - The technique of inserting thin needles through the skin at specific points on the body to control pain and other symptoms

Aerobic Exercise - Brisk exercise which promotes circulation of oxygen through the blood

Arthritis - A disease marked by inflammation and pain in the joints

Bone Density - Bone density is the amount of bone tissue in a certain volume of bone. It can be measured using a special x-ray called a quantitative computed tomogram

calcium - A mineral found in teeth, bones, and other body tissues


Diagnosis - The process of identifying a disease by the signs and symptoms

Fluoride - Element found in nature that helps prevent tooth decay

Fracture - A fracture is a break in the bone or cartilage. Fractures are also named by the trauma event that caused the bone breakage


Pain - An unpleasant sensation that can range from mild localized discomfort to agony. Pain has both physical and emotional components

Toxicity - Poisonous reaction that impairs body functions or damages cells

Vitamins - Organic substances that are essential for most metabolic functions of the body
