Causes of Phantosmia

What Can Cause Phantosmia?

Phantosmia is caused by numerous factors, such as:

• Sinus infection
• Intense odor-causing compounds
• Flu or cold
• Loud sounds
• Other upper respiratory tract infections (allergic rhinitis; chronic rhinosinusitis)
• Epilepsy

• Change in airflow through the nasal passage
• Head injury
• Migraines
• Schizophrenia
• Depression
• Parkinson's disease
• Tumors of the brain (multifocal cerebral gliomas)
