Causes of Phantosmia
What Can Cause Phantosmia?
Phantosmia is caused by numerous factors, such as:
- Sinus infection
- Intense odor-causing compounds
- Flu or cold
- Loud sounds
- Other upper respiratory tract infections (allergic rhinitis; chronic rhinosinusitis)
- Epilepsy
- Change in airflow through the nasal passage
- Head injury
- Migraines
- Schizophrenia
- Depression
- Parkinson's disease
- Tumors of the brain (multifocal cerebral gliomas)
