It is important to eat well balanced and healthy diet even when you are planning for a baby. What you eat before your pregnancy is very important for your child's early development when all the major organs are formed inside the mother's womb. You should not skip out on any thing be it carbohydrates, vitamins, protein, fats, minerals. It is not the time to reduce your weight. Folic acid in vitamin supplement should be taken one month before conception and throughout the pregnancy to avoid birth defects. But at the same time avoid food high in sugar and fat. Reduce your caffeine intake. Do not have more than two cups of tea or coffee each day. Take lots of cereals, beans, leafy green vegetables and orange juice for a health baby and comfortable pregnancy.
Avoid undercooked meat, fish, eggs and poultry. Cook them thoroughly in high flame so that all the germs are killed. Limit the intake of sea food because it contains high quantity of mercury. Unpasteurized milk products should also be avoided. Wash all the fruits and vegetables you consume thoroughly.
