Orgasmic Disorders or Anorgasmia

Disorder of orgasm include its complete absence or anorgasmia or delayed orgasm and maybe related to stress, medication or an emotional issues.


Both men and women suffer many problems achieving an orgasm, which could fall under the category of orgasmic disorders. Orgasmic disorders could mean the complete absence of orgasms, medically termed as anorgasmia. In some cases, orgasm is delayed or there is a dip in the intensity. Some complain of pain during orgasm, while for some it is a case of bad timing.

Male Orgasmic Disorders

Male orgasmic disorder means a condition when a man is unable to have an orgasm or it takes an inordinately long time to experience an orgasm. Some of the reasons men have a problem achieving an orgasm is:

1. Medications
2. Stress
3. Cognitive and emotional issues

Female Orgasmic Disorders

Research is still in the process of understanding the compete picture of female orgasms and sexual satisfaction, therefore knowledge of female orgasmic disorders is still unclear. Further, women do not possess much information about their own bodies and sexual responses.

For better understanding, female orgasmic disorders are split into two categories:

Primary Anorgasmia - is a term used to describe the completely elusive orgasm.

Secondary Anorgasmia - typically implies a condition where women have previously experienced orgasms but do not anymore, or when orgasms occur only under specific conditions (for example, only through masturbation but not during partner sex).

Generally, a cognitive-behavior approach is used to treat female orgasmic disorders.
